School Bag Weight Norms
The Government of India's School Bag Policy (2020) caps bag weight at 1.6-2.2 kg for Classes 1-2, up to 3 kg for Classes 3-5, up to 4 kg for Classes 6-7 — roughly 10% of body weight.
The policy advises that primary schools provide in-class storage and timetable books by day, so children never carry full sets daily. Yajur classrooms have personal lockers for primary students from Class 1.
