Common School Admission Interview Questions for Parents (And How to Answer Them)
Most schools today have a short parent interaction during admission. Here's what they actually ask, and what your answers reveal.

Parent interviews are not exams. We do them — like most reputed Warangal schools — to understand the home environment your child comes from. There are no trick questions. But your answers do tell us a lot, often more than you realise.
The 10 questions that come up most often
- Tell us about your child — what are they like at home?
- Why this school? What attracted you?
- What is your child's daily routine on a typical weekday?
- How does your child handle frustration or a 'no'?
- What screen time does your child get, and what do they watch?
- Who looks after the child after school hours?
- What languages are spoken at home?
- What are your hopes for your child over the next five years?
- How will you support your child's homework and reading at home?
- Is there anything about your child we should know to support them better?
What schools are actually listening for
We are not checking whether you have the 'right' answer. We are listening for honesty, warmth and a working understanding of your child as an individual. A parent who says 'My son is bright but he struggles to share — we are working on it' tells us far more than 'My son is the smartest in his class.'
Three things you should ask the school in return
- How will you communicate with us during the first month if our child is struggling to settle in?
- What does a typical day look like for a child in this class?
- Who do we contact if we have an academic or wellbeing concern mid-term?
If your child is present
For Pre-KG and Sr KG, the school will usually observe your child informally — playing with toys, drawing, responding to friendly questions. Do not coach them. Let them be themselves. The school is trying to understand your child, not test them.
Yajur admissions interaction
Our admissions interactions are warm, short and informative — for both sides. Book yours when you are ready.
Start admissionsFrequently asked questions
Can a child be rejected based on the parent interview?
Reputed schools rarely reject based on interview alone. The conversation is mostly to understand fit, expectations and home environment.
Should I dress formally for a school admission interview?
Be neat and comfortable. Schools are looking at the family dynamic, not the suit.
Will both parents be expected to attend?
Most schools encourage both parents to attend, but it is not mandatory. A single parent or one available parent is welcomed equally.
