Formative Assessment
Low-stakes, ongoing checks for understanding (think exit tickets, short quizzes, oral questions) used by teachers to adjust their next lesson.
If a summative test is a photograph (a snapshot at one moment), a formative assessment is a film (continuous footage). Formative checks give teachers and parents an early-warning signal long before report-card time.
