School Holidays Telangana 2026: The Calendar Parents Need

A practical, parent-focused look at the 2026 school holiday landscape in Telangana — including how to plan summer, festival breaks and unexpected closures.

Published 5 April 2026 by Yajur Editorial Team

Every Telangana school sets its own annual calendar, but most fall into a similar rhythm built around state holidays, board exam schedules and the Warangal summer. Here is what to plan for in 2026, and the planning tips parents wish they had earlier.

The typical Telangana school year

  1. Academic year start — early June.
  2. Dasara break — usually one to two weeks in October, around the regional festival peak.
  3. Diwali — typically a long weekend or short break in October-November.
  4. Christmas / Sankranti — a winter break of one to two weeks straddling late December and mid-January.
  5. Summer break — early to mid-April through end of May, the longest break of the year.

Festival and regional holidays to expect

Telangana schools observe Bonalu (regional), Ramzan, Bakrid, Independence Day, Telangana Formation Day, Vinayaka Chaturthi, Bathukamma, Dasara, Diwali, Christmas, Sankranti, Republic Day, Maha Shivratri, Holi, Ugadi, Ambedkar Jayanti and a handful of others. The exact set varies slightly by school. Always confirm against the calendar your school issues in May or June.

Unplanned closures — what to expect

Heavy summer heat, heavy monsoon rain, election days, civic events and occasional public-health advisories result in unscheduled closures every year. Most Telangana schools issue WhatsApp or SMS alerts the previous evening. Keep a backup plan for childcare on these days.

Making the most of the summer break

  • Sleep is the first priority — let school-deprived children catch up.
  • Choose one focused activity (a sport, a music class, a craft) for three weeks, not eight.
  • Plan one out-of-station trip, even a short one — break the routine deliberately.
  • Read aloud, every day, for any age. The single best summer investment.
  • Avoid an academic 'crash course' unless there is a specific identified gap.

Frequently asked questions

When does the summer break usually start in Telangana?

For most private schools, the last working day falls in mid to late April, with reopening in early June. State-board schools may differ by a few days.

Are there fixed national holidays I can plan around?

Yes — Independence Day, Republic Day, Gandhi Jayanti, Telangana Formation Day, and a few other national observances are fixed. Festival-based holidays move year to year.

What if my child misses school during a family trip?

Inform the school in advance, collect notes from a classmate or the teacher, and budget catch-up time in the week of return. Schools appreciate planning over surprise absences.
